Introducing the Gordon Head at Lambrick Park Baseball Association Volunteer Program
*NEW* as of 2019
Be a Volunteer at Gordon Head Baseball. Our league survives through the hard work and dedication of many volunteers.
We want youth in our programs to develop their baseball skills but most of all to have fun, be active, and make friends. Gordon Head is a large, vibrant, and highly successful baseball club. But we need YOU to continue to make that happen.
You do not need baseball knowledge or skills in order to volunteer. All you need is a drive to help kids have fun and become better ball players. We need people with all kinds of skill sets and interests. We need YOU!
Volunteers keep the club running...
.... when we do not have enough volunteers, registration costs go up, our programs suffer and our families' experiences do too.
Unfortunately, the number of parents who volunteer with Gordon Head Baseball has declined dramatically over the past few years and many of the current volunteers are managing multiple roles, some are having to go out to tender in order to keep the park running.
Recent requests for more volunteers have fallen short and more help is needed in order to have a successful 2020 season. Therefore, starting in 2019, each Gordon Head Baseball family will have a choice to either:
- fulfill a volunteer duty (secured with a Volunteer Commitment Cheque Deposit of $100); or
- pay a "Volunteer Opt-Out Fee" of $100 at time of registration or below.
What types of Volunteer Duties are there?
There are many volunteer opportunities besides positions on our board (click here for vacancies) and coaching (please contact your division coordinator if you are interested). Prior to the season we will have a park cleanup day(s), raising the fences on the upper fields, organizing opening ceremonies and uniform distribution. Throughout the season we have photo day, field maintenance, park clean up, recycling, and our annual Pitch, Hit, Run event. As the season winds down there is our closing ceremonies/fun day to organize and run, taking the fences down on the upper fields, and equipment collection. These are just some of the opportunities around the park where volunteers are needed.
Parents will be able to sign-up/register on our website for their Volunteer Commitments starting in January. These volunteer positions will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you do not see something that suites your skill set, please let us know as we will be happy to work with you to find a volunteer opportunity.
How much time do I need to volunteer?
In the year, you will only need to volunteer for one slot to complete your volunteer obligations. We are hoping that we will get enough volunteers to fill all obligations at the park. Some jobs are bigger than others, so feel free to sign up for as many spots as you are able to. If there is an opening, then that means we are in need of volunteers. As all volunteer requirements will be tracked through our online sign up page, please make sure you sign up prior to the event. If a volunteer opportunity is full and extra people show up we will greatly accept the help, but credit will not be applied to your volunteer account.
What is the Volunteer Commitment Deposit?
Registration for players whose families choose to fulfill a Volunteer Commitment is not considered complete until a Volunteer Commitment Deposit of $100 is received.
The deposit must be in the form of a post-dated cheque dated July 1, 2020, payable to "Gordon Head at Lambrick Park Baseball Association” Please include the player(s) name in the note field. Only one Volunteer Commitment Deposit cheque is required per family.
When your Volunteer Commitment is completed for the season, your deposit cheque will be destroyed.
How do I provide my Volunteer Commitment Deposit cheque?
For Blast ball and T-Ball (5U & 7U) – Mail or drop off your cheque payable to (Gordon Head at Lambrick Park Baseball Association) c/o Gordon Head Recreation Centre 4100 Lambrick Way, Victoria B.C. V8N 1W8 (mail box is to the right of the front desk)
For Novice, Mosquito, Pee Wee, and Bantam (9U, 11U, 13U & 15U) - Bring your cheque to the assessments (Dates are listed in your registration email confirmation).
For Midget (18U) - Mail or drop off your cheque payable to (Gordon Head at Lambrick Park Baseball Association) c/o Gordon Head Recreation Centre 4100 Lambrick Way, Victoria B.C. V8N 1W8 (mail box is to the right of the front desk).
Note: If you have more than one child in the program, please follow the instructions above for the program that the OLDEST child is registered in. Only one volunteer check required per family.
What if I am unable to Volunteer?
Gordon Head Baseball does understand that there are certain circumstances that lead to families not being able to volunteer. If you know that you will not be able to fulfill a volunteer position for the season, you will have the option to pay $100 WHEN YOU REGISTER and "Opt-Out" of your volunteer requirements. Only one "Volunteer Opt-Out Fee" is required per family. There are no exemptions from volunteering for any families, other than the Opt-Out process above.
What happens if I don't pay the Opt-Out Fee or provide the Volunteer Commitment Deposit?
Players will not be given a uniform until the Volunteer Commitment Deposit cheque is received or the Opt-Out Fee is paid online.
Do I still have to score keep and prep the field for home games?
Yes! Whether you choose to Volunteer or to Opt-Out, each family is still responsible for their share of individual Team Duties, including home game field preparation and scorekeeping. Volunteer Commitments and Team Duties are separate.
We sincerely hope the introduction of our Volunteer program will continue to bring new life and renewed energy back in to Gordon Head Baseball. With your help, we can continue to provide all of our children and youth with exceptional community baseball experiences. With a little help from all of us, the future looks bright and the kids can keep playing!
