Baseball Return to Play Update

Gordon Head Baseball Families…

We hope you are all keeping safe and healthy during these trying times. We have some good news finally, that a restart of youth sports, including youth baseball, is now possible. ViaSport BC has developed provincial guidelines for individual sports to base their Return To Play (RTP) plans, plus Baseball BC has developed guidelines for baseball-specific RTP plans.  The guidelines (see links below) are extensive and have numerous implications to our return to the field. Fully planning and understanding how to implement them on and off the field will take some time, effort and working with numerous partners, including Greater Victoria Baseball, BC Minor Baseball, the District of Saanich and possibly BC Public Health.

The Gordon Head Baseball Board of Directors are dedicated and determined to make sure that the park and our programs are safe, fun, and fully compliant with all public health guidelines of the Provincial Health Officer. We will not resume if we cannot meet these standards and the RTP guidelines mentioned above.

To ensure we have the time we need, we are targeting a re-start to our on-field baseball programs in mid-August with an early start to our fall ball season for 9U and above. We will not be hosting summer practice/clinic programs (games are not currently allowed in the current return to play phase and only small practices are). In the meantime, we encourage players and families to get out and throw a ball around this summer and just have some fun.

We are excited to be planning baseball again, but there is a lot of work to do. By reading the document links below you will see how much needs to be done to make a safe, informed and compliant RTP. If you can support the board and other volunteers to get the park and programs ready for a restart in mid-August, please reach out to our President or one of our Vice Presidents:

President: Dave Garton

VP Operations: Jon Milne

VP Baseball: Steve Kachanoski

Please continue to follow our Facebook page, and watch for email updates as we develop our Return to Play plan and have more details to pass along, including registration details for August.

Thank you and stay safe everyone,

Dave Garton
